S&C Electric Push into Distributed Intelligence

Jesse Berst discussed S&C Electric's IntelliTEAM solution for automated grid restoration, and specifically focused on their usage of distributed intelligence (rather than command & control) techniques to elegantly solve extremely complex and large-scale real-time control issues.

The article cites REGEN Energy's distributed intelligence method of managing peak demand for HVAC loads, particularly adept at facilitating Demand Response for building operators.

It's nice to see more firms not only willing to experiment, but now rolling out commercial products using distributed intelligence as their control methodology. When we first derived our swarm logic concept back in 2005, and asked academic experts about other commercial applications using such control systems techniques, the general consensus was that such control techniques were simply not ready for prime time.  I guess we're well past that point now. :-)
